IBA Bench Competition

3 Teams from Botelho Wood Architects entered the first bench competition (held on 27 July 2015) put on by the Institute of Bermuda Architects (IBA) and supported by the Construction Association of Bermuda (CAOB). 7 teams entered the competition are were tasked with creating a bench over the course of four weeks. Each team was made up of students, designers and builders and was an opportunity for students to be involved in a design project where they were hands on from inception to completion, and at the same time experienced project coordination and teamwork. The 3 teams from Botelho Wood Architects were BOW (Bench On Wheels), Hurricane, and Arbor Harbour. BOW was awarded first place with Hurricane taking second place.

In September 2015, the bench ‘Hurricane’ was used in the third annual Park(ing) Day in the City of Hamilton where parking spaces are turned into temporary public parks and other spaces for people to enjoy. The intent is to promote creativity, civic engagement and social interactions in the public realm.
